Big Freedia is Bringing Us 'Bigga Bounce' on Her Upcoming Project "Central City"
After nearly a decade, New Orleans bounce legend Big Freedia is releasing a new album just in time for Pride Month. "Central City", set to release June 23rd, will feature several artists including Lil Wayne, Ciara, Faith Evans, and others.
"Central City will take you on a journey to uptown 3rd ward New Orleans, down to Josephine Street where Big Freedia became Big Freedia", she said in an Instagram post. The album is preceded by her latest single "Big Foot".
2014's "Be Free", was Freedia's last full-length project. In 2017, she collaborated with Mannie Fresh on "The Bounce Back", and later released her mixtape "Big Diva Energy" in 2021.
Outside of her own releases, she has appeared as a guest feature for many artists, as well as snagging some award-winning sample credits on major singles like Drake's "Nice For What", and more recently, Beyoncé's "Break My Soul".
Introducing her new style 'Bigga Bounce', the upcoming project is influenced by Freedia's upbringing and solidifying her imprint within the bounce music world.
"Bounce has been through many iterations from Triggerman to Sissy to Cash Money Bounce," she says. "Welcome to Central City ya'll, where I pay homage to my city, my roots, hip hop, and to the art of creating new sound."
The album also welcomes the Central City Summer Tour, kicking off in Stanford, California on June 2.
