From standup comedy to the big screen, Comedian Sam Jay takes it up a notch with the help of Netflix!
As Gaye Magazine previously reported, we last saw Sam Jay in May of 2021. The former Saturday Night Live writer partnered with HBO Max and released the first season of her comedy series titled, "Pause With Sam Jay".
Fast forward to 2023, on January 20th, the comedian is seen attending the L.A movie premiere of Netflix's “You People”, alongside co-stars Eddie Murphy, Lauren London, Nia Long the film director by Kenya Barrie.
Sam Jay's character, Mo, plays the right-hand woman of actor Jonah Hill (character of Ezra Cohen). The hilarious duo s their friendship from their podcast the Mo & E.Z Show, where Sam Jay helps Hill navigate through his new interracial relationship with costar Lauren London (character of Amira).
Things get racial and romantic as the parents of Amira played by Eddie Murphy and Nia Long really don’t see eye to eye with Ezra or his suburban Jewish parents. And that was Sam Jay cue to step in with funny scenarios and relationship advice hoping to help her white best friend get the black girl of his dreams.
For 1 hour & 18 minutes viewers can expect a side of Sam Jay they’ve never seen before.
The comedian expressed via Instagram that if supporters don’t stream "You People" on its release date, she’ll be "thinking mean things about your face".
“You People drop January 27th on @netflix and I'm all up in that thing! Stream the f*ck out of it or don't but if you don't talk to me ever again ever. Trueeeeee God is love and this is really fucking wild! (You can talk to me again but know I'm thinking mean things about your face)”
The You People Netflix Trailer was released on YouTube with over 9 million views. "You People" hit select theaters on Jan. 20th and will be available to watch in the U.S on Jan. 27th of this year only on Netflix.
We're use to seeing Sam Jay writing the scripts and now the tables have finally turned!
