It's the final day of Pride Month and Dwyane Wade went out with a bang! Last night the retired Miami Heats basketball star debuted his new Pride sneaker on Instagram, dedicating the custom design to his Trans daughter Zaya Wade who came out as transgender in April of last year. According to Wade, she knew her gender identity for nine years before coming out to her parents.
The new Pride shoes will be added to Wade's own signature line of sneakers, Way of Wade. The shoe brand debuted in 2012 after he signed a life time contract with the Chinese apparel company Li-Ning.
Wade wrote on Instagram: "Gay pride or LGBT pride is the promotion of the self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people as a social group.Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is the predominant outlook that bolsters most LGBT rights movements!"
This is not the only time Dwayne Wade has supported the LGBT Community. Back in April 2019, Wade took part in the Miami Pride with his trans daughter Zaya. Then in September 2019, the Wade family debuted a new Pride t-shirt with GLSEN that said, "Please remain inclusive and dedicated 2 equality".
If that's not active enough, 50% of the shirt’s earnings went to GLSEN and he also made a separate $50,000 donation to the same organization. The tees can be purchased at the YnG DnA website for $35. It's safe to say that Dwyane Wade is a proud Pride dad.
