Elizabeth Warren Says She'll Accept a New Secretary of Education Only If a Transgender Kid Approves

Voting campaigns bring a lot of promises, and the LGBT community is watching to see if Elizabeth Warren will be keeping her promise of appointing a new secretary of education only if a transgender kid approves.

The announcement was made as Warren attempted to woo her potential voters during the Iowa Caucus, "I'm going to have a Secretary of Education that this young trans person interviews on my behalf, and only if this person believes that our Secretary or Secretary of Education nominee is absolutely committed to creating a welcoming environment, a safe environment, and a full educational curriculum for everyone will that person actually be advanced to be Secretary of Education."

Her announcement is not coming out of thin air. Previously, Elizabeth talked to a 9-year-old transgender named Jacob who had asked her how she was going to make schools safer for people like him if she became president.

She responded saying, "Let me start by saying I want to have a secretary of education that who both believes in public education and believes in the value of every one of our kids and is willing to enforce our civil rights laws. We've had some secretaries of education who've been better, and we've had one that's been a whole lot worse. Her name is Betsy DeVos. So, when I'm president, she'll be gone...I want to make sure that the person I think is the right secretary of education meets you and and hears your story, and then I want you to tell me if you think that's the right person and then we'll make the deal."

The idea is that with LGBT involvement the Secretary of Education will be the start of a more diverse and inclusive environment in the school system. Betsy De Vos is not at all popular with the public and Elizabeth Warren looks to be keeping up with her promise to Jacob, but #gayes, do you think that Elizabeth will put her money where her mouth is if she becomes President?
