Frank Ocean Headlining Coachella is History Making for the LGBT Community

via FADER

As we all know, Coachella is one of the biggest musical festivals in the world. We also know when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community, Coachella hasn’t shown its support. In fact, it’s public knowledge that they have quite the history giving money to anti-LGBTQ, pro-gun, and anti-abortion politicians and super PACs. That’s why Frank Ocean, a queer man, headlining is such a huge deal. He will be the first black queer man to do this. Another thing that has fans excited is Ocean’s pension to opt out of live shows. So, it’s a rare treat for them! Ocean isn’t the only queer act scheduled to perform. According to Out, fans can ‘expect to see Li lNas X, Pabllo Vittar, Orville Peck, Kim Petras and Brock Hampton (which is fronted by Kevin Abstract, who is gay) as well. A list!’

Philip Anschutz, the owner of Coachella, along with scheduling these amazing queer acts, has also donated $1 million dollars to Elton John’s AIDS Foundation.

"My gift to the Elton John Foundation is intended to emphasize that we support freedom of all people to live their lives peacefully, without interference from others," Anschutz told Billboard in an interview.

"Sexuality is among the most personal of issues, and it has never been my intent to weigh in on people’s private lives. I support the rights of all people and oppose discrimination and intolerance against the LGBTQ community. I see this as a matter of basic human rights." Anschutz was involved in promoting John’s farewell tour.

So, what do we think #gayes? Is Philip Anschutz making a real effort to make amends or is he trying to score woke points?
