What is the Met Gala?
The Met Gala, sometimes referred to as the Met Ball, is an annual commemoration that celebrates the opening of the spring exhibition of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. Celebrities and public figures across many Industries attend, with the most notable
names usually arriving with a famous designer who has dressed them for the evening. The Met Ball is always on the first Monday in May. This year, that date is May 6.
What is the theme?
The theme is "Camp: Notes on Fashion ", which is a play on the Susan Sontag essay "Notes on Camp," published in 1965, and is built upon the many iterations of camp style , & we don't mean summer camp or anything to do with nature. In the essay, Sontag describes camp as "one way of seeing the world as an aesthetic phenomenon.
Here's What Will be in the exhibit:
According to The New York Times, there will be about 175 pieces in this show,including menswear, womens wear, sculptures, paintings and drawings. The exhibition will take viewers through the origins of camp, it's history and explore how it's interpreted in fashion today.
The Hosts
The gala will be co-hosted by two campy fashion aficionados: Lady Gaga & Harry Styles. The entire event is being sponsored by Gucci. Gucci's Alessandro Michele along with Serena Willams will also be joining as Co-Chairs.
