With over 100 models walking in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, including supermodels Harieth Paul, Maria Borges, Joan Smalls and Jasmine Tookes, it looks like the most sexiest night in television has been cancelled.
L Brands, the family partner for Victoria's Secret, has cancelled the 2019 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. The company released a statement saying the decision was part of a move to “evolve the messaging of [the company]”. ... That came as the company took notice that sales at the Victoria's Secret brand continued to decline.
Chief Financial Officer at L Brands Stuart Burgdoerfer admitted the brand was moving on for now. "It was a very important part of the brand building of this business and was an important aspect of the brand and a remarkable marketing achievement," Burgdoergfer said in a statement to WWD Magazine. "And with that said, we're figuring out how to advance the positioning of the brand and best communicate that to customers."
Victoria's Secret has caught a lot of backlash when their Chief Marketing Officer Ed Razek made some negative comments about plus-sized and transgender models.
"We attempted to do a television special for plus-sizes…No one had any interest in it, still don't," Razek said. When he was asked about including transgender models he said, "I don't think we should…the show is a fantasy." He later apologized and said they would cast a transgender model.
But they have made a few changes and hired their first transgender model, Valentina Sampaio.
Howevever, last year's show on CBS went lower, pulling only 3.27 million viewers, down from nearly 10 million in 2013. The angels have continued to Keep Ripping The Runways & making Various Apperances in shows Such as, boohoo, Versace , Michael Kors & Rihanna's Savage Fenty X Show which streamed on Amazon Prime.
Savage X Fenty's sales come no where close to those of Victoria's Secret, according to a reporting earlier last year in The Wall Street Journal. It raised an additional $50 million last August from investors like Jay-Z's firm Marcy Venture Partners LLC.
While Victoria's Secret's sales were declining, Savage X Fenty's continued to sky rocket through the roof. Rihanna thought pretty long about what she wanted her show to look like. The show was inclusive and included models and women of all shapes and sizes, even Laverne Cox Walked In The Savage × Fenty fashion show.
The brand did not specify whether the cancellation is temporary, or the fashion show is gone for good.
