Gayes! 2025 marks 50 years of LGBTQ+ Pride, protest, and power in the city of Baltimore. And with the theme “50 Shades of Pride,” Charm City is honoring five decades of LGBTQ+ legacy and liberation, making this Pride weekend a full-circle celebration rooted in resistance and joy.
“We said the best way to honor that (legacy) is to ensure that we highlight 50 Shades of Pride, to let folks come up in any way that they see is necessary,” said Tramour Wilson, Chief Director of Special Projects for the Pride Center of Maryland.
Since Baltimore’s first ever Pride parade took place in 1975, the celebration has been labeled as “bold and beautiful” and now stands Maryland’s largest and longest-running LGBTQ+ event. While there’s no video footage from the very first march, the city has honorably leaned into its history, resurfacing clips from the ‘80s and ‘90s parades to air on local news outlets like WBAL-TV building momentum and visibility for this milestone year.
What makes Baltimore Pride different is its unwavering connection to the community. Organizers emphasized that funds raised throughout the weekend go directly towards supporting homeless LGBTQ+ youth, mental health services, and access to affirming care through the Pride Center of Maryland’s 30+ community programs.
This year, the mission shows up in every detail. The 2025 Baltimore Pride Parade is bringing out over 150,000 people, big names and even bigger voices: U.S. Senator Angela Alsobrooks, Baltimore City Council President Zeke Cohen, and Dr. S. Rageem have been named Grand Marshals, bringing a much-needed political presence that’s crucial amid the growing attacks on LGBTQ+ rights across the nation.
In addition to civic support, Baltimore Pride 2025 promises an unforgettable lineup of performers. Friday kicks off with an elegant evening and a special performance by the iconic Jennifer Holliday.
Grammy-nominated R&B and Gospel legend Kelly Price will hit the stage during the Pride in the Park Festival taking place Sunday, June 15th, joined by the gaye’s fave and certified vocal powerhouse, Durand Bernarr.
The free, family-friendly event will take place at Druid Hill park and includes food trucks, live music from local talent, and a special tribute to the Latinx community.
Also hitting the stage over the weekend is Brooklyn-born rapper Lola Brooke, who will headline the Block Party immediately following Saturday’s parade.
From politics to performances, this 50th anniversary is more than a celebration, but a love letter to the past, present, and future of Baltimore’s LGBTQ+ community.
