Gayes, as you all know, director/producer Lee Daniels was the first person who vocally condemned the alleged hate crime made against Jussie Smollett. He even took a screenshot of Jussie directly after and posted it to his Instagram account so that others could witness the severity of the situation firsthand. But, his stance eventually took a turn after reports came out alleging that the racist, homophobic mugging was fake.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Lee Daniels was asked if he was embarrassed for giving his support.
"I’m beyond embarrassed. I think that when it happened, I had a flash of me running from bullies. I had a flash of my whole life, of my childhood, my youth, getting beaten."
He was then asked to clarify if he really doubted if Jussie staged the attack.
"Of course, there’s some doubt. I’m telling you that because I love him so much. That’s the torture that I’m in right now, because it’s literally if it were to happen to your son and your child, how would you feel? You would feel, Please, God, please let there be that glimmer of hope that there is some truth in this story. That’s why it’s been so painful. It was a flood of pain."
We hope despite all of this Lee and Jussie can work on rebuilding trust in their relationship. What are your thoughts?
