Omar Apollo Clapsback at Homophobic Trolls After Backlash of His Scene in "Queer"

Grammy-nominated singer Omar Apollo took to social media to slam “homophobes” who he said unfollowed him after he posted a racy photo to his Instagram. 


“Unfollow me if ur a homophobe,” he said on Instagram Stories. “You’re not my target audience. I will never make myself palatable, stupid.”




Apollo originally posted the photo in celebration of his film Queer's release to streaming platforms with the caption “Queer available on streaming now for all the dLs that didn’t wanna go to theatre 😝,”


The photo, which is a screenshot from a sex scene between Apollo and Daniel Craig's character features Apollo completely nude with an emoji over his crotch as Lewis's character lustfully gazes at him. 


While Apollo may have faced backlash from some followers, other fans and many of his industry peers commented in celebration.


Singer Troye Sivan dropped a comment “What platform?” Transgender actress Hari Nef added, “Finally I can stream in peace.”



Based on the Willam S. Burroughs of the same name, Queer was directed by follows the story of William Lee (Craig), a United States native who migrates to Mexico City and eventually starts a torrid love affair with a recently discharged Navy serviceman named Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey).


During the film’s press run, Apollo took to Instagram to share various behind-the-scenes moments including a photo of his character's false teeth.


To prepare for the role which would require him to be nude Apollo said he lost 20 pounds  “I had to get on the soup diet,” he told Interview in September 2024. “[Director] Luca [Guadagnino] did not tell me to lose weight, but when you’re about to have a sex scene with Daniel Craig, you’re like, ‘Oh, dude, I can’t be looking off.’”


The character which is m“I was like, ‘Damn, I’m actually not flat right now,’” he shared. “I had to get it together, and I was on tour with SZA. Luckily, I didn’t have that many lines.”
