Porn Hub's Rise in Trans Porn Viewership Exposes Lack of Black Trans Protections

Entertainment News

When Chance the Rapper “Liked” Trans pornography on Twitter, it sent many into ablaze. The rapper’s Twitter connection to @TubeAsiants— a Trans dating, adult games, and webcam also seemingly reflected the globally growing Trans porn industry.

According to Pornhub’s 2022 Year in Review “Transgender” is ranked the 7th most popular category globally and the 3rd most popular on the site. Transgender searches on the site had a +5 rank change in viewership, ultimately growing the category by 75%.

“FTM” (female to male) searches were 8 times more popular than “MTF” (male to female), with “transgender threesome” and “transgender surprise” among the top searches. Men view Transgender videos +22% more than women, while women view the “Trans Male Transgender” sub-category +115% more than men.

Gen Y visitors (aged 25-34) view Transgender videos +34% more than other age groups, as does Gen X (aged 35-44) by +25%. Porn Hub's statisticians also found that “FTM” (female to male) searches grew +202% among visitors to PornhubGay. The most searched-for gender identities are “non binary”, “gender x” and “androgynous”.

The most viewed categories (in order) are Ebony, Lesbian, Threesome and Transgender— as the United States has the highest daily traffic to Pornhub, worldwide. Yet the most used and searched term of 2022 according to Pornhub is “Lesbian.”

Ironically, Trans adult entertainment is steadily increasing at a time Trans and Queer rights, are under attack. GOP Lawmakers now want to ban drag brunches in various states along with other political efforts to limit queer liberation and joy.

Notable entertainers like Buck Angel and Luca Blu represent Female to Male (FTM), Non-Binary, Gender X, and some androgynous avenues within the Queer spectrum; however, Black Trans and gender-fluid adult entertainers are not wholly represented.

Black Adult entertainers like Thotiana Vixen, Dream Monroe and Nyla Jackson represent popular Trans entertainers. Kept Secret— a gay, FTM, and Transman account on PornHub also represents Black Trans and Gender Fluid men, engaging with cisgender Black men.

During a time when many Queer organizations are advocating for Queer rights, Trans porn is poignantly taking off.

Other platforms like Only Fans, Patreon, AdmireMe, MYM, and Fansly provide alternatives instead of the major adult entertainment distributors like Pornhub, XNXX and XVideos. BlackTransmen.org is combatting the lack of Black Trans representation during this boom in the Trans porn industry by advocating and fundraising for equality for all Black Transmen with their EmpowerHIM campaign. The organization will host the EmpowerHIM Summit held at the National Black Trans Advocacy Conference April 25 – 30, 2023 in Dallas, Texas. As the year continues, more desires of Trans pleasures and bodies will become notable. This should inherently allow Black Trans and gender fluid adult entertainers an opportunity to profit off of the current trend.

Trans and Queer organizations like The Transgender Law Center and ACLU unify communities and provide resources that provide safe spaces for sex work and adult entertainment, along with some insight on how to navigate compensating and representation issues, while raising awareness of sex work and Black Queer folks. Black Trans Women & Black Trans Femmes experience disproportionately higher rates of full decriminalization of sex work, housing insecurity, police brutality, and unemployment. The Trans porn industry and current industry trends are summoned to properly include Black Trans and Queer adult entertainers as they present the complete picture of a large demand of Trans and Gender Fluid representation in pornography.

“Trans people are far more likely than cis people to rely on sex work for income, these issues disproportionately affect trans workers,” according to Them.

Ultimately, with Trans and gender-fluid folks at the center of desire and pleasure for many, proper Black Trans and gender-fluid representation and protections is needed to wholly represent the impact of this group in a growing porn industry.
