Suspect Charged for the Tragic Killing of Black Trans Woman Ashley Burton

In a significant development regarding the untimely death of Ashley Burton, a black transgender woman, law enforcement officials have identified the suspect responsible for the tragic incident. The accused has been named as 31-year-old Darius Mills, according to a report from Atlanta News First.


As Gaye Magazine previously reported, the Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed the identity of the victim found shot to death at City Park Apartments on Fairburn Road in Atlanta on April 11. The victim was identified as 37-year-old transgender woman Ashley Burton.

Atlanta Police had responded to a person down call at 415 Fairburn Avenue SW around 4:20 a.m. Officers discovered Ashley Burton's lifeless body from an apparent gunshot wound inside the second-floor breezeway of City Park Apartments.


Arrest warrants obtained by Atlanta News First shed light on the chilling details surrounding the tragic event. According to the warrants, Darius Mills allegedly attempted to steal Ashley Burton's phone before shooting her in the face. Following the shooting, Mills broke into her apartment and stole a second phone.

Ashley Burton's cousin, Ivory Carter, shared heartbreaking details, revealing the cruelty of the assailant's actions. Ivory emphasized Ashley's aspirations and her decision to move to Atlanta in pursuit of her career as a hairstylist and makeup artist.
