Bounce music legend Big Freedia is having a big week. In addition to announcing his upcoming hotel, she is also set to return to reality TV with her show “Big Freedia Means Business” on Fuse.
The hotel tentatively titled “Hotel Freedia” will be located on Decatur and Frenchmen streets, in the historic Faubourg Marigny neighborhood.
According to NOLA.com the two-story, 4,800-square-foot space is expected to open By Mardi Gras 2024 and will have five hotel rooms, an outdoor pool space, and a nightclub serving food and drinks.
Freedia shared her excitement about the hotel’s announcement via Twitter saying
“This dream of mine has been in the works for a long time, I’ll be one of the first black hotel owners in New Orleans. will keep y’all posted on the official opening date, can’t wait to see y’all at Hotel Freedia”
Reid Martin, Freedia's manager, said the hotel plans to be a music hub for local artists., "Think of a country club with a music venue," Martin said. "Obviously, Frenchmen Street is all about local music so we want to have a lot of local music going on, but we're also interested in having some national music coming in."
Freedia told Essence last year that Hotel Freedia “will be a place where people can come if they want to have a cup of coffee in the morning and do some work on their computer, it will also be a great space for people to come and have dinner.”
The formation of the hotel will be included on her upcoming reality television show “Big Freedia Means Business” set to air this June on Fuse.
Fuse’s Senior VP and Head of Content and Marketing Marc Leonard expressed his excitement about the upcoming series in a statement “We are beyond excited to announce that Big Freedia is coming home to where she belongs at a moment when she is ready to scale new heights of success. We can’t wait to share those new triumphs with her legions of devoted fans.”
World of Wonder co-founders Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato echoed Leonard’s excitement saying that they are excited to work with Big Freedia again.
