Lil Nas X Becomes First LGBT Artist to Win 'Song of the Year' at VMAs

Updated: Oct 25, 2020

Lil Nas X made history last night at the VMAs for being the first LGBT artist to win "Song of the Year". You already know what song that is. "Old Town Road", the country/rap song ft. Billy Ray Cyrus was a strangely instant hit and was the longest standing #1 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 in its 61 year history.

It wasn't until the end of pride week that Lil Nas X confirmed outright that he was gay. Though there was waves of criticism, there was infinitely more support. Lil Nas X accepted what he said was his 'first award ever" at the VMA's, sporting an always subtle outfit of a fiery red cowboy concoction with an embroidered black bull rider.

This is only the second year that MTV has handed out the Song of the Year award, which went to Post Malone and 21 Savage for “rockstar” in 2018. That makes Lil Nas X the first openly LGBTQ+ artist to win the award.

People will no doubt be looking forward to more of Nas' unique music (and fashion) style, but as it stands right now - can't no body tell him nothin'.
