Inspired by a mission to create accessibility through fashion, queer-owned brand Burghàlie hosted its fifth annual TBR Fashion Show Gala, a fashion experience created to provide a platform for minority and queer creatives to present their work on a larger stage. Both models and designers had the opportunity to win a cash prize of up to $3,000 to fund the future of their careers in fashion.
With growing interest and attendance, the event has secured sponsorships from brands like Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Belaire Champagne, and M·A·C Cosmetics, which provided makeup products and even a personalized video message from Romero Jennings, global director of makeup artistry at M·A·C — and an ongoing supporter of the gala.

The TBR Fashion Show Gala was founded by Rashaad Burghalie, who started the competition after a negative experience at New York Fashion Week in 2021, where he invested $10,000 but felt he gained nothing in return. The goal of TBR is to move beyond mere “bragging rights” and offer genuine professional advancement for all of its participants. “It’s important for queer people to create spaces and opportunities for our community because we are often excluded, even in industries we heavily influence. Creating our own platforms keeps our community visible, thriving, and moving forward,” Burghalie said. When asked about the future, he added, “I want the gala to become an annual event with the prestige of the Met Gala and serve as a premier destination for emerging models and designers, especially minority creatives.”

The evening also paid tribute to changemakers in the fashion industry, honoring guests like Labelsndollas, a queer celebrity stylist who has worked with Cardi B, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, and Queen Naija. He was presented with the Visionary Stylist Award for his outstanding work in the community and his intentional commitment to uplifting Black and queer creatives. Through his projects with celebrity clients, he consistently provides designers with opportunities to have their work seen on major platforms, choosing to amplify emerging talent rather than relying solely on larger brands and fashion houses.

House of Jordan x Christina, also known as MaisondeJXC, claimed the designer award. Founded in 2021 by self-taught Georgia native Jordan Christina, her work is inspired by her personal experiences and the belief that beauty can be found in both the best and most difficult moments of life. Naomi Numan won the model runway competition.
But the design competition wasn’t the only notable fashion in the room; attendees also arrived dressed to impress, donning their best black-and-white with a subtle hint of red. See more photos from the event below.
