Gaye Magazine is a leading digital platform dedicated to celebrating and amplifying Black LGBTQ+ voices, culture, and storytelling. We create engaging, community-centered content that reflects our audience in authentic, creative, and innovative ways.
We are seeking a Social Video Editor with a sharp editorial eye and strong knowledge of Black LGBTQ+ culture to produce engaging short-form and longform video content. The Social Video Editor will edit interviews for our hit series “Gaye Street Talk”, daily social clips, interview highlights, and full-length interviews, shaping the visual identity of our brand across platforms.
A fast turnaround time, creativity, and a deep understanding of cultural nuance are essential.
This position reports to the Editor-in-Chief and requires attendance at weekly team meetings.
Proven experience editing short-form and longform video content.
Strong understanding of Black LGBTQ+ culture, humor, language, and community interests (non-negotiable).
Ability to deliver fast, clean, and compelling edits that resonate with our audience.
Experience in vertical format editing and social-first storytelling.
Skill in transitions, sound design, custom animations, templates, and basic motion graphics.
Proficiency in professional editing software; the following tools are bonus skills:
CapCut
InShot
Riverside
AI editing tools
Reliable communication and consistent deadline management.
Must have access to stable internet, smartphone, and laptop/computer.
Edit short-form vertical episodes (3 – 5 min in length) and video for social media (Snapchat, Reels, TikTok, Shorts) with quick turnaround.
Select the most engaging, culturally relevant, and compelling moments from interviews.
Edit longform video interviews for YouTube and other platforms.
Cut, package, and caption clips for publication across Gaye Magazine’s social channels.
Create visually distinct edits that enhance and evolve Gaye Magazine’s brand identity.
Use storytelling techniques informed by Black LGBTQ+ culture, trends, and pop culture to edit content.
Add transitions, sound effects, custom animations, templates, and motion graphics.
Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and social media team to maintain consistency and meet deadlines.
Attend weekly virtual team meetings.
Up to $2,500/month retainer (based on experience & availability)
First two months: $1,500/month
First two months compensated at $1,500/month with limited work scope; increases to $2,500 beginning month three. Must pass review within 60-day probation period.
Net 60 payments
Retainer includes a negotiable number of monthly videos
Additional compensation + commission opportunities for campaign work & special projects.
Independent contractor position for 6 months, with renewal option based on performance.
