If you’re a fan of Saturday Night Live, you’ll love Sam Jay's new late night series! The Saturday Night Live writer will finally host her own segment and it will be executive produced by Insecure’s creator, Prentice Penny.

On Tuesday, HBO released the trailer of Jay’s new segment, titled “Pause With Sam Jay”. The 1 minute and 18 second video, gives a look at the vibe of the show, filled with lively debates.

According to Rolling Stone, Pause takes the traditional late-night talk show format and switch things up a bit. Jay will host a party in her kitchen & living room each week.

In Jay’s interview with Variety, she describes how she wants the cast to feel. Hoping they could just “forget the cameras” She specifically asked to limit them around the house. The most unique experience to look forward to will be the body-cam cameras or hand-held ones and no lock-off cameras or boom microphones.

“The DP feels like another person in the room but also a fly on the wall...I just felt if there was a guy with a mic hanging over everyone’s head then they were going to be self-conscious... You’re trying to set people up for it to be as natural as possible because this is a mixture of people I know from comedy who have some connection to performing but also just my friends, and I didn’t want to be putting anyone in an awkward position”

“I’m really happy to be able to make something that I think suits who I am and allows me to be the best version of myself, rather than to force myself in a box.”

You can expect to be entertained by Jay and her guest as they discuss topics of current events, like Covid-19 and racial justice. They will also have additional interviews, sketches, and animation.

“ I’m really excited to bring my point of view to late night television and have felt nothing but support creatively from HBO and A Penny for Your Thoughts...So everyone wear your mask and vote so I can make my TV show! Thaaaanks.”

Jay is no stranger to the comedy world. Hollywood reporter stated that she has been a stand up comedian since age 29 back in 2012. She then earned two Emmy nominations as part of the SNL writing staff, which she started in 2017.

In July 2018, She appeared in Netflix's Special The Comedy Lineup and filmed her first one-hour Netflix comedy special, Sam Jay: 3 in the Morning, at The Masquerade in February 2020.

Despite her success, Jay still finds time for her wife, Yanise Monét who she’s been in a relationship with for over 10 years. The interior designer loves sharing pictures of them traveling together on Instagram. No matter how many comedy shows Jay my have, Monèt is right by her side.

“We have our ups and downs like everyone else, but this woman goes above and beyond for me! I type this while looking up to the heavens on a private non light polluted beach front villa! We dreamed & manifested this life were living over 10 years ago on a purple couch in my living room! & she continuously works hard every day to make our dreams a manifestation. So thankful!”

Jay already has so much representation under her belt like Avalon, ICM Partners, WME for stand-up and personal appearances, Viewpoint and Schreck Rose. Now in 2021, She is just getting started.

“Pause With Sam Jay” will air for 30-minutes, with 6 episodes and premieres Friday, May 21st on HBO 9:00 p.m. ET. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
