Dancehall Artist Shatta Wale Explains Viral Video of Him Kissing His Bodyguard to Ghana Government

Updated: Feb 23, 2022

Ghanian dancehall-reggae artiste Shatta Wale faced backlash online after a video of him giving a kiss to his bodyguard went viral on Thursday (Feb. 17). In the video, Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., is seen with his hand on the neck of his bodyguard - Shatta Kumoji, before giving him a kiss on the lips and a hug.

Wale gave Kumoji one of his chains and placed it around his neck before embracing him as a form of welcome.

The video made its rounds on the internet and ultimately landed the eyes from Sam George, a renowned homophobic member of the Ningo-Prampram Constituency in the Parliament of Ghana. Gaye previously reported on George last October after he proposed a bill that would sentence Ghana's LGBTQ+ citizens and their allies up to five years in prison and torture in the form of conversion therapy.

Upon sighting the footage, (Member of Parliament) MP Sam George noted that Shatta Wale would have to "explain". He took to Twitter retweeting a screenshot of the kiss, while stating that he suspects Wale to have been on drugs.

Several fans voiced their opinions after watching the viral video, one even stating that Ghana police should arrest Wale.

Wale later noted on Twitter that he spoke with MP Sam George about the video without giving exact details about their conversation, stating "understanding the key". George seemingly confirmed with "it's all good. The beef turn burger."

Wale then took to his Facebook to reveal that this wasn't the first time he's kissed a member of chis crew. He notes in the post that the video was him performing a "bloodline kiss".

Looks like this whole thing was just brotherly love, however fans still continue to question Shatta Wale's sexuality.
