With "The Matrix 4" in the works at Warner Bros, transgender directors Lily and Lana Wachowski are set to write and produce once again. On Wednesday, the sisters celebrated "The Matrix" 21st anniversary and released a video from Netflix Film Club. Director Lily Wachowski revealed the film's original intentions even after Warner Bros felt the audiences wouldn’t understand.

Not long after the the third Matrix film, both directors came out as trans. Lana Waschowski came out back in 2010 and Lily Waschowski came out in 2016. Now in 2020, the sisters have been confident in their sexuality more than ever before.

Speculations of "The Matrix" showcasing a gender transition started back in 2012 when critics talked of the red and blue pill that Neo (character played by Keanu Reeves) took. The pills were rumored to be medication used for hormone therapy. According to Vulture, after Neo's idea of the world somehow being off, Morpheus (played by Laurence Fishburne) replied how it's just, "a splinter in your mind." So viewers then put two and two together.

"The Matrix" could be the gender binary mind. The agents would represent transphobia and Neo might have had dysphoria. If that's not convincing enough several clips in "The Matrix"movie made it obvious of the directors intent of the trans life. The first and last thing you see on Neo's computer could mean "Trans" or "Transmission Optimization".

Furthermore the LGBT community refer to Trans people who haven't come out yet as an "Egg". In "The Matrix" Neo was reborn in a clip where he was awakened from an adult egg.

"The Matrix Stuff was all about the desire for transformation, but it was all coming from a closeted point of view. We had the character, Switch, who would be a man in the real world and then a woman in the Matrix, and that's where our heads spaces were." Lily Waschowski said via Netflix Film Club

"I don't know how present my transness was in the background of my brain as we were writing it...Especially for me and Lana, we were in the space where the words didn't exist, so we were always living in a world of imagination."- Lily Waschowski via Netflix Film Club

The Matrix 4 is said to be released the year of 2022. Photos from TMZ showed Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Neil Patrick Harris in Berlin on set earlier this year. Many other actors are rumored to stay their same characters, according to Digitaltrends.

Unfortunately, The production was shut down due to Covid-19. On the bright side we have two years to prepare for what might be the greatest trans film in history. Its definitely worth the wait.
