The Proud Family Reboot Cast List Released, Will Feature More LGBTQ+ Guest Stars

This year, Disney has been rolling out new content that’s literarily life. Of course, their marvel series WandaVision, Loki and The Falcon & The Winter Solider have pretty much dominated all tv shows on the streaming service. Though, Disney isn’t just acing it at their Marvel shows. The streaming service has also revamped their most timeless and popular show, The Proud Family series. The reboot, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will have even more to offer. Even better, the cast list for the show was just released. More importantly, the cast will feature LGBTQ pioneers.

If audiences loved The Proud Family before, they’ll love the reboot even more. It’s hard to believe that 20 years have passed by since The Proud Family debuted on the Disney Channel. Furthermore, the show depicted the experiences of an American Black family, detailing plotlines that touched on prelevant racial and social issues. Having recently celebrated its years long anniversary, the groundbreaking series announced that it’ll be making its return to Disney.

The new version of the series will follow along the same lines as the former. "The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will pick up the story of its central character, Penny Proud, and include her madcap family: parents Oscar and Trudy, twin siblings BeBe and CeCe, and grandmother Suga Mama (and Puff!). Of course, it would not be The Proud Family without Penny's loyal crew Dijonay Jones, LaCienega Boulevardez, and Zoey Howzer, among others.”

Sounds already like a great series reboot. Making matters even better, the show will be even more inclusive and diverse than before.

Specifically, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder reboot will lend a voice to pioneers of the LGBTQ community. Disney has tapped queer, black superstars like Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Lena Waithe and Jaden Smith. Others include former Glee Star Jane Lynch and beauty guru Bretman Rock. Though, not only has the show cast members of the LGBTQ community, but the series will also feature a same-sex family.

As we previously reported, renowned actors Billy Porter and Zachary Quinto will be portraying Randall and Barry-Leibowitz-Jenkins, interracial adoptive parents to Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins. Maya is set to be voiced by Keke Palmer.

Additionally, EJ Johnson will star as new character Michael Collins, who’s rep reads as a “nonconforming trendsetter who serves fierce looks at school.” Talk about all-star casts.

Given the cast list so far, there’s bound to be huge musical performances. Afterall, who could forget The Proud Family’s signature theme song sung by Solange Knowles. A-list stars and singers Chance the Rapper, Normani, Tiffany Haddish, Anthony Anderson, Gabrielle Union, Courtney B. Vance, Marsai Martin and Brenda Song will also make guest star appearances in the show. Even Beyoncé’s manager and mother, Tina Knowles is set to appear on the show. Clearly, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is going out with a bang.

Moreover, the series plans to bring back the original cast as well. Kayla Pratt will reprise her starring role as Penny Proud. Other actors like Tommy Davidson and Paula Jai Parker will also reprise their roles as her parents, Oscar and Trudy. Additionally, JoMarie Payton will act as Suga Mama, while Cedric the Entertainer will voice the character of Uncle Bobby, the entire Boulevardez clan and Penny’s friends Dijonay and Zooey. Looks like the whole gang is getting back together.

Unfortunately, not much information is known about The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder reboot. The release date is still up in the air but rest assured, it’s bound to be a great show. Not to mention, fans can binge watch the original series on the Disney+ streaming service.

All two seasons of the popular Disney show are available on the streaming platform now. Be sure to catch up on the original before the reboot hits Disney+ in 2022.
