Durand Bernarr is adding another milestone to his career. BET announced that the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer will receive the Soul Personified Honor at the 2026 Soul Train Awards, recognizing his fearless creativity, vocal mastery and contributions to contemporary R&B.
The honor recognizes an artist who embodies the essence and spirit of R&B. Bernarr will also perform during the ceremony, which takes place Friday, Nov. 27.
The announcement follows a landmark year for Bernarr, who won the 2026 Grammy Award for best progressive R&B album for “Bloom.” He has since released his fourth studio album, “BERNARR.”

Named in honor of his father, sound engineer Bernarr Ferebee Sr., the album features collaborations with Big Sean, BJ The Chicago Kid, Khalid, Sevyn Streeter and Vic Mensa. It also ranked No. 11 on Billboard’s list of the “Best 50 Albums of 2026 So Far.”
In a 20-year career as an independent artist, Bernarr has built a devoted following through his genre-blending sound, dynamic live performances and unapologetic individuality. His 2023 NPR Tiny Desk concert went viral, introducing his commanding vocals and energetic performance style to a wider audience. He has also sold out shows at Blue Note locations in Los Angeles and New York and joined Kehlani on The Kehlani World Tour.
Connie Orlando, BET’s executive vice president of specials, music programming and music strategy, praised Bernarr’s artistic evolution and commitment to authenticity.

“Durand Bernarr is an extraordinary talent whose artistry reflects the depth and boundless possibilities of R&B,” Orlando said. “His remarkable vocal range, commanding stage presence and commitment to artistic authenticity have distinguished him throughout his career.”
Bernarr will also host the 2026 Soul Train Awards Red Carpet Show: Back on Track.
With the Soul Personified Honor, a performance and hosting duties, Bernarr will have a prominent role in this year’s celebration of R&B and its cultural influence.
