When asked how he feels about Judge Joe Brown’s remarks, Mathis Jr. had this to say:
“I love who I am. I am happy about who I am. The reality is that I grew up like a lot of Black, gay boys. I didn’t choose to be gay, this is the way God made me. [Judge Joe Brown] attacking my father for loving me for the way I was made doesn’t make a lot of sense.” – Greg Mathis Jr.
Mathis Jr. has consistently made it known throughout his life that he is a proud Black, gay man, who has always felt love, support, and acceptance from his family, especially from his father.
In 2022, Mathis Jr. came out to the public on Mathis Family Matters, a reality series showcasing the lives of the Mathis family. One standout moment from the series was Judge Mathis Sr.’s bold acceptance of his son, which resonated deeply with Black families nationwide. Last year, Mathis Jr. married Elliott Cooper in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in a wedding officiated by none other than Judge Mathis.

This controversy began with Judge Joe Brown’s controversial remarks about the Honorable Judge Mathis, as he made disparaging comments against Former Vice President Kamala Harris, and mentioned Judge Mathis’ wife, Linda Mathis.
“…[Judge Mathis] apparently likes that Joe and hoe thing with Joe Biden and Hoe Harris and he got offended I called his fake Nigress [Kamala Harris] a hoe, which she is…well I haven’t called [Judge Mathis] wife a hoe, but I hope for his sake she ain’t…because if you are I might tell you what you are,” said Judge Joe Brown.
He also commented on Judge Mathis’ support for his son and the LGBTQ+ community.
“I would never do what he’s done. He’s embraced the rainbow, you’ve seen him speak on that. I never would corrup When asked how he feels about Judge Joe Brown’s remarks, Mathis Jr. had this to say:

“[Mathis] can take his punk self somewhere else and go deal with his rainbow fixation. All his children are rainbow…man what have you not been doing…so sensitive…I found it funny.” – Judge Joe Brown
Brown also claims that the ratings of his TV courtroom series Judge Joe Brown were higher than those of Mathis’ show, Judge Mathis.
“He was 150…149 [in rank]. His ratings weren’t like mine”. – Judge Joe Brown
The Judge Joe Brown TV series ran for 15 seasons, from 1998 to 2013, while Judge Mathis aired for 24 seasons between 1999 to 2023. Currently, Mathis is the longest running Black male host and the second longest court show judge in television history. Following the cancellation of Judge Mathis, he was hired by the Allen Media Group, the largest owner, producer, and distributor of TV court programming in the world. Under the conglomerate, Mathis now hosts Mathis Court with Judge Mathis (2023 – present), which was recently renewed for two additional seasons.
In a follow up interview with The Art of Dialogue, Judge Mathis addressed the flurry of personal attacks made by Judge Joe Brown.
“This was [Judge Joe Brown’s] second attack against my family and my son. I responded to his first attack early on and I didn’t like that response quite frankly. When [Judge Joe Brown] came on last time, he went even deeper. He attacked my wife, my other children, and my entire family and I knew I had to come on and say something to stop it.” – Judge Mathis
In response to Judge Joe Brown’s claims that Judge Mathis was successful because it promoted a “LGBT” agenda, Judge Mathis opposed the accusation and defended his stance on protecting the LGBTQ+ community.
“I support anybody who’s being discriminated against, whether it’s Black men or women, the Latin community, and the LGBT community. Of course I have a particular reason I defend that community, it’s because my son is gay and my brother is gay.” – Judge Mathis
“I would let God take my life before I refuse to accept my son and embrace and love my son. I don’t care what the criticism is.” – Judge Mathis
At the end of the The Art of Dialogue interview, Greg Mathis Jr. offered some advice to Judge Joe Brown.
“Go call your grandkids, your kids, or something. I think his wife left him already, but go call your family and just sit down with them.” – Greg Mathis Jr.
Gayes, what do y’all think? Did Mathis Jr. just put the final nail in the coffin of this long running Mathis vs. Brown feud…or will Joe Brown rear his judgmental head once again? Only time will tell.
