Coco Jones’ wedding accessories were as intentional as her gowns: Brandon Blackwood created a custom sandal that honored the singer by name, joining a wedding wardrobe shaped entirely by Black designers.

Fashion designer Brandon Blackwood designed a custom sandal heel for Coco Jones, which the brand dubbed the “Coco Tie Sandal.” The delicate heel features straps, a sleek silhouette, metal aglets engraved with “BB,” an embossed Brandon Blackwood logo, and delicate bow detailing at the ankle and toe. Even the sole received a personalized touch, embossed with “Coco” in honor of the bride.

Blackwood, a first-generation American born to Jamaican and Chinese parents, is the founder, creative director, and CEO of his namesake brand and first gained global recognition in 2020 for the viral “End Systemic Racism” tote bag. The custom sandals became one of several Black-designed details incorporated into Jones’ wedding wardrobe.

In an interview with Vogue, Jones shared her feelings about the collaboration.

“The crazy thing is that he’s been around for so many of the high moments that I needed him to be involved in this personal one,” Jones said. “He and his team were immediately about it. We had one call, they sent sketches, and they knew exactly what I meant. They nailed everything, and I couldn’t have asked for better accessories.”

Blackwood was one of four Black designers and design teams that contributed to the wedding looks for Jones and NBA star Donovan Mitchell. For the ceremony, Jones worked with Off-White creative director IB Kamara and director of VIP and special projects Simon Lee. The pair created an off-the-shoulder gown featuring a subtle sweetheart neckline, hip draping, and a sweeping train. Off-White also outfitted Mitchell, crafting a white suit for him to wear down the aisle.

For her second look of the night, Jones wore a gown by Esé Azénabor featuring a fitted skirt and a sparkling bodice. The couple also worked with Scorcésa as part of their wedding wardrobe, underscoring their commitment to celebrating Black creative talent throughout the occasion.

Jones and Mitchell married Aug. 1 at a private residence in New York state, surrounded by close family and friends. NBA stars Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson and Bam Adebayo attended, alongside Ciara and Russell Wilson. While the guest list included major names from sports and entertainment, the celebration’s most striking through line was its intentional spotlight on Black love and Black design.
